The Medical Assisting program prepares students with the knowledge, technical skills, computer information processing skills, and work habits necessary for entry-level employment in various health-care related fields including medical transcriptionist, medical billing and coding specialists, medical office managers, and medical assistant. The student gains proficiency in both clinical and administrative skills. Students study such courses as anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, computer applications and clinical procedures. The curriculum emphasizes attendance, interpersonal skills, professionalism, and confidentiality throughout the program. An externship is included. Graduates of this program may assume a wide range or responsibilities in a medical office or ambulatory care centers. Duties may include initial contact with the patients, scheduling appointments, receiving and processing payments, preparing billing statements, and handling mail.
