Diablo Valley College OR Monterey Peninsula College?
Hi,
I'm from france and I'm planning on going to CA and study there. As it is something very difficult to do from France, I am beeing helped by 2 compagnies that organizes everything.
My problem is that, one of them says that Diablo Valley College is perfect and the other one says that Monterey Peninsula College is a way better.
I really don't know who to trust so if you could tell me from your own experience, and opinion what you think...
Thank you :)
It depends on what you want to study and what kind of experience you want to have.
For example, Monterey Peninsula doesn't offer journalism; Diablo Valley does. Monterey is a beautiful but very touristy and somewhat expensive town; Diablo Valley College is in Pleasant Hill, an outlying suburb of San Francisco that is not a tourist destination and is relatively cheap.
DVC has a large number of international students -- about 1,400 -- so you would not feel out-of-place. It might also be a good choice if you were planning to stay in California to finish your degree, because it has transfer agreements with UC Berkeley.
What is considered a California Community College?
Are community colleges in Los Angeles considered part of California CC, Such as West La or East LA.

"...The California Community Colleges System (CCCS) consists of 110 community colleges in 72 community college districts in the U.S. state of California. Created by legislation in 1967, it is the largest system of higher education in the world, serving more than 2.5 million students with a wide variety of educational and career goals....

I'm going to move to L.A. soon. What's a good community college there for me?
I want to get into the film industry as a director. And maybe even actor. That's my goal, but right now, community college is the only option for college for me. I have below a 2.0 gpa in hs but i'm currently raising it. all i know is that community college is the only thing i have going right now. I'm going to be moving to la so i can get some work in the film industry but for a person with that kind of goals, what community college should i go to?

Which is a better community college?
Monterey peninsula college or Hartnell college ,
They are both good community colleges. Which is better for you?
Well, that depends on what your goals are.
Are you interested in earning an Associates Degree or Certificate in Fashion Design?
Monterey Peninsula offers this program - Harnell does not.
Are you interested in an Associates Degree that will transfer to a CSU or UC campus in Geology - both colleges offer this program.
What you can do for yourself is compare what coursework is offered in your major at each campus. Then use the ASSIST site and/or the college catalogs to see which of these courses will transfer to the University you would like to transfer to. http://www.assist.org/web-assist/welcome.html
Another thing to factor in is the Transfer Center Services at each campus and/or the Career Center Services (Depending on your goals). Look for TAG (Transfer Guaranteee Programs and/or scholar programs. Look for University Days offered at each campus)
http://www.mpc.edu/studentservices/CTRC/Pages/default.aspx
http://www.hartnell.edu/students/transfer/
I would also look at the Schedule of Classes for Spring/Summer for both campuses. How are the classes you need scheduled? How often? How many sections/different instructors?
Factor in your location and commute time and/or the cost of living in each community.
Use the CCC Apply site to compare further. http://home.cccapply.org/colleges/explore
Visit each campus. Look around the Students Services Bldg(s) the Library, student gathering areas, bookstore - get a feel for the place.
If you've attended Monterey University in California, what was your experience like there?
Im trying to find a good college in California.
California State University, Monterey Bay, in the California State University system, is located in the city of Seaside, California, on the Monterey Peninsula. It is located on the site of the former Fort Ord. Much of the school's curriculum stresses multicultural approaches to learning as opposed to the traditional based curriculum of many U.S. institutions of higher learning. In 2006 Dianne F. Harrison was elected from 3 candidates to be the new President of the University[1]. Harrison was the vice president for academic quality and external programs at Florida State University before accepting the appointment at CSUMB.
California State University, Monterey Bay, or CSUMB, was founded September 25, 1994 with a student enrollment of 654 students. With the constant growth of the campus, the enrollment increased to 3551 in 2002. As of 2002, the campus was 60.8% female and 39.2% male. The ethnic background of the students was as follows: 45.8% White/Caucasian, 26% Latino/Hispanic/Chicano/Mexican American, 4% Black/African American, 3.9% Asian American, 2.2% Pacific Islander, 1% Native American, 3.4% other with 13.8% not stated. As of 2002, there were 334 faculty members: 128 fulltime faculty (43% tenured, 33.6% tenured-track, 18.7% fulltime lecturer) and 206 Part-time Lecturers
As an academic institution, CSUMB differs from all other universities. CSUMB implements outcome based learning, helping students to gain an edge and be more prepared for post-college life. Students are required to work in the community through service learning, internships, and action research before completing their Capstone project, which demonstrates the cumulative learning and abilities they have gained in their majors.
CSUMB majors:
Business Administration, B.S.
Collaborative Health and Human Services, B.A.
Earth Systems Science & Policy (ESSP), B.S
Global Studies
Health & Human Services, B.A.
Human Communication, B.A.
Human Performance & Wellness, B.S.
Integrated Studies, B.A.
Liberal Studies, B.A.
Mathematics, B.S.
Music & Performing Arts, B.A.
Social & Behavioral Sciences, B.A.
Telecommunications, Multimedia, Applied Computing (TMAC), B.S.
Teledramatic Arts & Technology, B.A.
Visual & Public Art, B.A.
World Languages & Culture, B.A.
CSUMB graduate programs
Master of Instructional Science and Technology (MIST)
Master of Science in Management and Information Technology (MSMIT)
A majority of CSUMB students live on campus. The campus offers residence halls, or dorms, located close to all campus facilities, single student apartments and suites, and family apartment-style living on the east side of the campus. All communities are located conveniently close to campus. Students can walk, drive or take the campus shuttle to classes and activities. Students also enjoy going into nearby downtown Monterey or Santa Cruz on weekends where there are a few bars and dance clubs frequented by students and locals.
The Campus Police Department is notoriously active at CSUMB, and it's not uncommon to see the red and blue lights of CSUMB's finest flashing in or around the housing units. Crime on those areas patrolled by Campus Police is high for a University of CSUMB's size. The Clery Act report for 2004 found 5 incidents of forcible sex (Down from 2002's total of 7), 42 drug related violations, 25 counts of burglary, and 107 liquor law violations. Sex offenses are abnormally high at CSUMB with 5 incidents reported in 2004. Compare these with other campuses for 2004 (Sonoma State: 0, Long Beach State: 0, Sacramento State: 1, Fullerton: 0) and only the much larger Fresno State campus comes close with 4 incidents reported in 2004.
Clubs are a popular activity at CSUMB. Some popular clubs are the Black Student Union, Anime Club, Pride, M.E.Ch.A, EMPOWER, Otter Christian Fellowship, and the Business Club. The Associated Students (Student Government) at CSUMB offers a variety of committees and organizations for students to take part in. Some current groups are the Academic Committee, Diversity Council, Environmental Committee, Lobby Corps, Public Relations Committee and the Technology Committee.
CSUMB athletes and sports teams are called the Otters. A member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II, the Otters are also members of the California Collegiate Athletic Association. The Otters field fourteen sports for men and women for the fall, winter, and spring seasons. Fall sports for men include cross country and soccer. Fall sports for women include cross country, soccer, and volleyball. The winter sport for men is basketball. The winter sport for women is basketball. Spring sports for men include baseball and golf. Spring sports for women include golf, softball, and water polo. CSUMB also has a coed sailing team which competes in the fall and spring (although the spring season is more important).
CSU Monterey Bay is now part of NCAA Division II after being a member of the California Pacific Conference in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.
The Otter Sports Center is the home to the CSUMB Otter's Mens and Women's Basketball and Women's Volleyball teams. The Sports Center is affectionately known as "The Kelp Bed" referencing the floating home of the Sea Otter.
CSUMB's baseball program begins with the start of the 2006 Baseball season. The team is coached by former San Francisco Giants player and local born Rich Aldrete.

Help with transferring to college!?
I will be attending Monterey Peninsula College this summer and I would like to know that if I were to attend in the summer, fall, spring, and summer again if I could transfer to UC Davis for next fall? im just wondering because I know you need four semesters from a jc to transfer so I was wondering if it would work like that? Thank you for the help.
OK, found it... MPC is part of the California Community College System.
What works out best, is to complete an AA degree from the local community college, and then to slide on over to the state university.
If you take some courses but do not complete the AA degree, it is like you are transferring from some other school, but if you COMPLETE the AA degree, it is like you had been going to the state university the whole time... they usually call these 2+2 programs.
MPC has a webpage for how to transfer to a four year college:
http://www.mpc.edu/newstudents/Pages/WhereToStartTransfer.aspx
I always recommend completing the AA degree first, then slide into the state university - it also costs less!
Best wishes for much success, always!

College help? I don't know what to do!?
I live in California, and I always thought I would just go to UC Santa Cruz. I went to Carmel High School, but graduated two years early by taking the CHSPE, I'm currently going to Monterey Peninsula College, (community college) until I get my 60 credits, and I can take my time, considering I just turned 17, but at the rate I'm going, in two years I'll be able to leave junior college.
I do all right, I'm inserted in studying zoology, I'm not a 4.8-type student, but I'm smart and do well.
BASICALLY
I decided I do NOT want to go to a university in America. I don't care what country the university I go to is in,
It just can't be too expensive or high-priced fancy schmancy.
I just want a school with a pretty campus around nature.
Do any of you guys know any colleges anywhere that aren't too expensive but has nature and natural beauty. Rather than just a big gross city
Well. Texas is in America so that's not really what I'm going for
I don't think it's very strange that I want to travel around and leave the country. I don't like America, I'm not patriotic, I don't want to go to college here
The USA is like a whole continent because it has all types of environments, nature and cities, that's why a lot of americans have never traveled outside the country, because almost everything is available.. I kind of doubt there aren't any universities that you would be interested in

i am wanting to go to an out of state college what should i do?
i was thinking hawaii or any college on the east coast, i just want to get out of california!
right now i am at a JC..monterey peninsula college wanting to do nursing and i figured that once my 2 years over here were done id like to transfer. although my financial aid is now being taken back because i am no longer an at risk youth and my mom doesnt qualify for me to get that much worth anything. so what resouces can i look into for going to an out of state college???
You do realize that leaving California means leaving the state with the best colleges in the world, right? California is home to an amazing public university system. UCLA, Berkeley, UC -- Davis, UC -- Irvine, UC -- Santa Barbara, and the University of California; not to mention some amazing private schools such as Stanford and CalTech.
Also, nursing is one of those majors where it really doesn't matter where you go to college. So paying more for an out-of-state college in nursing will not open up any more career opportunities. However, if you plan on becoming a nurse anesthetist, the best school for that is on the East Coast: Virginia Commonwealth University is the number one school for nurse anesthesia, other than the Army's nursing program.
I highly recommend that you stay in college in California if you still plan on doing nursing, then try moving to the East Coast to find a job in nursing.
Good luck in all of your future endeavors.
