I don't want to go to college. I just want to learn welding and get out within a year or two. There are no trade schools in texas, I know, I Googled it. The only thing in texas I could find was community colleges, but like I said before I don't want to go to a college, but I will if I have to.

There are 26 public colleges in Texas that offer training in one of these majors: Metal Fabricator , Welding Engineering Technology/Technician , Welding Technology.
They are called "colleges" because they are post-secondary [after high school]. The above majors are vocational programs and you will not be forced to sit through many academic subjects at all.
Here is a sample program from Lamar Tech in Beaumont, just as an example. They offer both a certificate program which is just training in welding and an associates of arts program which will have some business classes:

Tuition at Lamar Tech is $4,250/year.
Compare that to ATI and you can see why you keep getting advised to go to the public community college and not to the for-profit private tech schools.

No, its not closing down, its alive and well. Perhaps they are closing or relocating one of the branches, but the company as a whole isn't closing down anytime soon.

I start school tomorrow at ATI Career Training Center. My tuition supposedly is $18,360. Financial Aid gave me $2600. Student Loans gave me $7657. According to ATI's math, $5668 is not covered by Financial Aid and needs to be covered by Plus Loan or cash payments (if you do the math, there is actually $2435 that wasn't included...don't know why). When I asked about the cash payments, they gave me 4 plan options with a note that said "Cash payments are interest free"
Plan 1- Pay in full
Plan 2- 4 quarterly (every ten weeks) payments of $1414 equally..... 1414x4=5656...not $5668 which is what im suppose to be paying.
Plan 3- 10 payments of 566.80......566.80x10=$5668 (what im suppose to pay)
Plan 4- 15 in-school payments of $75 and 44 out-of-school payments of $147.91 >Approximately.
15x75=1125 44x147.91=6508.04 6508.04+1125=$7633.04
I would be paying $1965.04 extra if I do Plan 4.

They make it seem like they are all professional , everyone is suited up. Girls have all under the knee skirts with their collared shirts tucked in. They have camera's recording everything someone says, they have bluetooth looking phones on their ears. They all speak very professional without a studder or repeating words. I don't know. I turned down a job with an Optician to go to this school and now im thinking twice about it.

This school has been open for 2 years so their is really no reviews since the classes are small, it is rare to find someone graduated from ATI at the moment.

It is very apparent you do not have the money to pay for this FOR-PROFIT school and need to cancel your enrollment and call and cancel your loans. Do NOT go to class... i repeat do NOT go to class.
Since you OBVIOUSLY don't understand the billing system, the payment system or even the method to which (or how) you are getting aid then you have NO BUSINESS enrolling and hoping it will just work itself out (because it won't).
These always end badly... with you owing more money than you thought with less aid than you thought for a program you didn't fully research and realize you could get down the road at the local community college for 3,000 a year instead of $18,000 Again, this always ends up with someone dropping out and going down the road to the real school who laughs at the transcript you hand them when you try to transfer your credits..
Anyone with a printer can print something on a piece of paper and "SAY" they are accredited... but accredited by WHO? The lady in the skirt that has a printer? She prob has the State of Texas Tattooed on her rear. LOL
Schools this new are a BAD idea... often times schools will close their doors without notice. Students show up to class one Monday morning only to find the doors locked and the building empty and them left with NOTHING.
Do NOT go to class and DO NOT let them convince you to stay. This is a bad idea that is only going to get worse. You need to COMPLETELY WITHDRAW from your courses before you ever go to class and make sure you get a receipt or a letter or something saying you are withdrawn from the school. This school is a FOR-PROFIT school who's only existence is to take your money.
Dental assisting is NOT something that is worth 18K a year for. Again, the CC down the road will be a REAL school that has been in existence a long time and will prob be less than 3,000 for the year. Plus, you don't have to obsess about how they space the letters on their correspondence... not sure what that is all about, but whatever.

Yes, you would still have to pay this. This is what happens when you choose a school that is more than what you can afford. No one said that "financial aid" (loans and grants) would pay for EVERYTHING. And when you choose a for profit or out-of-state school this is what is expected. The places make it seem so NORMAL for you to just hand them 16,000 for this...lol People don't have the confidence to laugh at them and say R U NUTS?
YOU can only afford what you are getting in Pell grants (prob the $2,600). Why take out all those loans (and fork over all that cash) when the Com College down the road will be less than your grants alone. THis is what people call a "FREE RIDE". Seriously? Do you just WANT TO PAY AN ADDITIONAL 16,000 needlessly?

im looking to get into the army as soon as possible, i was told by a recruiter that i need 15 college credits since i have and ged and a record....i enrolled myself at ati career training center, they give 70 credits hours after 10 months(its a 10 month program) i start july 30 2009, so if i only need 15 college credits, how many months would that take?
