Suffolk University is a private university in Boston, Massachusetts, United States, situated on Beacon Hill. Founded in 1906 by Gleason Archer, Sr. as the Suffolk School of Law, Suffolk University expanded during the 1930s, adding liberal arts and business programs. Currently, Suffolk University comprises the Suffolk College of Arts and Sciences, the Sawyer Business School, and Suffolk University Law School. The University is also home to the Beacon Hill Institute, a "free-market think-tank." During the 1990s Suffolk University constructed its first residence halls, began satellite programs with other colleges in Massachusetts, and opened campuses in both Madrid, Spain, and Dakar, Senegal, (the Suffolk University Dakar Campus).
