Schoolcraft College is a two-year community college located in Livonia, Michigan with a satellite campus in Garden City, MI. Schoolcraft College was established in 1961. Originally named Northwest Wayne County Community College, the name of the college was changed because of the length. On February 6, 1963, the college officially changed the name to Schoolcraft College, after an American geologist Henry Schoolcraft. The reasoning for not including the word 'community' was for two main reasons. They thought that it might confuse people thinking that they were located in the county of Schoolcraft or served the city of Schoolcraft which is ten miles south of Kalamazoo.
