Founded as a coeducational academy in 1837, Colby-Sawyer is an independent, coeducational, residential, undergraduate college that offers degrees in a wide range of areas. It currently has about a thousand students. It is affiliated with the Windy Hill School, a laboratory pre-school that provides programming for toddlers, pre-schoolers, and kindergarteners, and is located on the Colby-Sawyer campus.
