Lake Area Technical Institute is a technical institute in the northeast region of South Dakota. Located in Watertown, SD, the campus lies on 30 acres of land, which is home to seven buildings that are completely occupied with the latest technology. In 1965, the founding fathers of technical education in South Dakota voted unanimously to organize the first technical school in Watertown, and soon after more would follow in Mitchell, Sioux Falls and Rapid City. At the beginning the school started with one program and 16 students. Today the school has approximately 1300 full-time and part-time students, who attend 23 programs of study, which range from agri-business to cosmetology and from dental assisting and nursing to welding technology.
