The University of North Texas (informally UNT or North Texas) is a public university located in Denton, Texas, USA. UNT is the flagship of the University of North Texas System, which also includes the UNT Health Science Center at Fort Worth and the UNT Dallas Campus. The university was founded in 1890 by Joshua Chilton as the Texas Normal College and Teacher Training Institute. Since its inception, the institution has had its name modified six times to reflect its growth and change. In 1894, the name became North Texas Normal College, followed by North Texas State Normal College in 1901.
