New York Colleges and Universities

Im about to graduate high school, love sports and looking for New York colleges that offer Sports Journalism. I have a 82.20% average. I took Media Communications in 9th grade, and Im currently taking Journalism. I know all my Baseball, Football, Hockey, and Soccer. I would lime to be a play by play announcer, or a beat writer for a team for a newspaper/ magazine, or sports talk radio host. Help.

Try to contact a student there and call the admissions department to request a brochure.

Try to join magazines related to Sports Journalism and see if you can land an internship with the Sports Section in Newspapers (NY Post, Daily News, etc..)

I am looking for New York colleges that have a campus, but also offer online programs through distance learning....
I know of NYU online, Ellis College, and University of Phoenix some other ones, but are there any that offer you to take classes online, and attend a physical graduation ceremony?

I'm from California and I was looking at some colleges in New York, and I was wondering if New York had a particular high school requirements they need to take, to get into colleges in New York, like California has the A-G requirements. Would New York colleges have any academic requirements that need to be followed?

Is the 1190 for CR and M or does it include the W portion also? Huge difference.

If it is just for CR and M, you can expect to get serious consideration by all the CUNYs and all the SUNYs.

Amend your answer with your actual scores by test portion and also with your proposed major and we can give a better and more accurate answer.

Also, is there any particular area of NY that you are interested in? That also helps.

I'm planning to study in New York and take up a part-time job at the same time. Is it legal and is it easy to find a job that pays at least $7/hour?
thanks for all your informative answers. but does that mean within the first year i won't be able to apply for any jobs at all? i really need a job because i only have enough savings for school fees & accommodation. what if i opt for a working visa and study part time instead? is that a more viable option?

I have never seen so many wrong and misinformed answers for one question before.

Students on an F-1 visa are eligible to work on campus without authorization from USCIS only if they will not be displacing a U.S. citizen seeking employment. You are able to work 20 hours a week during the school year and 33 hours during vacation periods.

For information about available on-campus jobs you should visit your University's website, employment office or speak to the international student adviser.

Off-Campus work.
For the most part, students on F-1 visas are not eligible to work off campus. On rare occasions exceptions to this rule are made if the student can show evidence that unforeseen circumstances have created an economic hardship which require him or her to work and there are no on-campus employment opportunities.

To be eligible for this type of off campus employment you must have been a full-time student for at least one year.If this is the case, you must file for employment authorization. The OIP will provide you with the required forms and will submit the paperwork to USCIS on your behalf.

NOTE - One of the requirements to obtain an F-1 visa is that you must furnish evidence of sufficient funds to cover ALL expenses including tuition, accommodation, books, living expenses, medical insurance etc while in the United States, without the need to take up employment to support or provide additional funds to support/help cover these costs.

Finally, there is no option to "opt for a working visa and study part time".

Another requirement of an F-1 visa in that you must enroll and stay in full-time education, failure to do will result in loss of status and deportation.

Besides, you wouldn't qualify for a H-classification visa anyway.

Alrighty so my boyfriend lives in Massachusetts and attends college there, but wants to transfer to New York where I am.

I don't want him making this change if New York schools aren't good, or if they're too hard to get into / stay in.

He would be majoring in psychology. Do you think it would be a smart move? Please explain why or why not. Thank you! :)

Massachusetts has some of the very top colleges in the nation like Harvard, MIT, Tufts, Holy Cross, BC but New York also has its fair share of top colleges like Columbia, NYU, Fordham, Colgate, Hamilton.

It really depends on which school he is moving to and if it is a lateral move or a step up or down which cannot be judged just on the state.

I'm going to be a junior this september and i'm interested in staying in New York for college. I wanna go to a 4 year school.

I know this is insane but I'm thinking about applying to a New York City college as an international student for the Fall '09 semester.

Preferably located in Brooklyn or Queens, which colleges still accept applications? Yes, I realise I would have a month to sort out the student visa and accommodation and everything.
