College and University - Oregon
College Education In Oregon: The state now hosts a total of 26 public and 33 private institutions of higher education. Students will find a majority of the state’s colleges in the western portion of the state in and around the city of Portland. The Oregon University System supports seven public universities and one affiliate in the state, while the state also supports 17 community colleges.
Oregon Colleges In the Rankings: U.S. News and World Report rankings: National Rankings – University of Oregon (#108), Oregon State University (Tier 3); Liberal Arts Rankings – Reed College (#54), Willamette University (#60), Lewis and Clark College (#71).
A Closer Look at Oregon Education: Oregon has historically struggled to fund higher education and typically ranks toward the bottom of the nation in terms of state spending per student. While many of the early schools in Oregon were started by religious organizations, the state’s higher education system has since diversified and is working to improve its reputation.
Did You Know? ‘We aim to serve’: One of the first universities in the West was Salem’s Willamette University; with the motto, “not unto ourselves alone are we born” the popular liberal arts college encourages students to spend thousands of hours performing community service.
University of Oregon, southern Oregon university, Portland state university, and Oregon state university. I have a 3.3 gpa and a 1650 say score. I run track and cross country and have 80 of community service and a part time job.
Which one, school, would be best if I wanted to own my own fleet feet or Nike store?

UofO and OSU are very competitive to get into but all you can do is apply.
PSU and SOU are a shoe-in. I go to PSU right now and you can get in with a 2.0 GPA.
I'm a senior and I plan on applying to mostly art schools. But I want to apply to a few liberal arts colleges as well, but ones with very good art programs. What schools, in California or Oregon, have good art programs? (Specifically in graphic design or advertising.)

Since you are from out of the state of California (no one here calls it Cali) you will need to avoid all state colleges and state universities as it is almost impossible to get into them as an out of state student. This will greatly cut down the number you need to consider.
I’m currently a high school junior living in California and I want to apply to University of Oregon, Oregon State University, Portland State University, and Southern Oregon University. I know that PSU and SOU are eligible for the WUE with specific major choices, but I was wondering what makes you eligible for in-state tuition. Could I get it with an Oregon drives license or do you need to own property there? The out of state tuition is very expensive and I was wondering about any scholarships or something else that can help.

You can read about Oregon residency requirements for state univ. resident tuition rates here:
* http://www.ous.edu/stucoun/prospstu/residency/
Click on the links given and read all the information. You will see the word domicle used in the information. It means your permanent, legal residence (home/apartment.)
The information from the University of Oregon regarding residency is a bit easier to understand than some of legal wording on the site given above. This is the link:
* http://admissions.uoregon.edu/freshmen/residency/FAQ
You will need more than an Oregon driver's license to be considered a state resident for tuition purposes.
If you need to learn about scholarships, first talk with a high school counselor. There may be some available just for students graduating from your high school.
Also look on the financial aid web pages of the schools that you have listed in your question. There should be information on scholarships that the schools make available to their own students. However, the deadlines for applying for those school-funded scholarships for the 2012-2013 school year may have already passed.
You can also look for scholarships for which you may qualify/to which you may wish to apply by using what I think is the best, most reliable database: Scholarship Search offered by the well-respected College Board:
* https://bigfuture.collegeboard.org/scholarship-search
Click on the Start button.
If you choose to register (free – registration is not required to use Scholarship Search) so you may return later and modify your search strategy, feel secure that you will not receive spam emails. Do not select too many defining terms in your search strategy, which may result in a poor scholarship search result.

I am thinking of taking a road trip to check out colleges and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to quality colleges between LA and Oregon. I am looking for a semi-rural or suberbanish location but I'm pretty flexible at this time. I have a 3.9 GPA and I play varsity baseball. I'm interested in a career in education or journalism.

I can also major in biology, but I feel animal science would be more directly related to becoming an Animal Keeper.
I might even consider northern California, if there's nothing good in Oregon.
As usual, I can't seem to find the right words to search in google - I'm not getting any useful results. =/
If possible, could you name a school in Southern Oregon? It's not mandatory, just preferable.

I'm not sure if they have a waiting list, but you might want to try Clackamas Community College (its about 20 min outside of Portland). It's a great community college, and they have a partnership with OHSU (a prominent hospital/ medical university). Because CCC is outside of Portland, they may have less nursing applicants. Good luck!!!
