When I checked the Comprehensive Colleges-Bachelor's (Midwest): Top Schools section, Augustana College was ranked. You'll probably want to read more about the school and list what major you wish to pursue.

I really want to learn Mandarin, but I am having trouble finding colleges that offer them outside of my state. I figure I might be missing some and maybe someone on here would know. I tried SDSU and USD (I once heard they have them at USD but I haven't seen anything about it online). Can anyone help me?

The question is...do you want to major in Chinese? If so, you can use collegeboard to find college by location, major, and a variety of other ways.

But for South Dakota, there seems to be no majors in Chinese, Chinese studies, Asian studies, or East Asian studies. You may want to check close by states. Personally, I recommend University of Hawaii - Manoa for any sort of Asian studies from Chinese which can include Mandarin, Taiwanese, or Cantonese to Korean to Japan to Thai to numerous other Asian languages. They have an extensive Asian studies and have a niche for each language in which you can also study history, culture, etc to major in which all the classes fall under.

This is random, I know. But I've been doing some reasearch on different colleges in the Dakotas and I keep noticing that universities in North Dakota are much more expensive than those in South Dakota. Is there a reason behind this?
For example, the University of North Dakota is about $13,000 for in-state and about $23,000 out-of-state.
The University of South Dakota is about the same in-state and only about $16,000 out-of-state.
Then when you look at the state colleges, North Dakota State is about $14,000 in-state and $24,000 out-of-state.
South Dakota State is only about $12,000 in-state and $14,000 out-of-state.
So...why is ND more expensive than SD? Just curious. Thanks!

Taxpayer dollars. ND doesn't subsidize out of staters as much as SD does.
That's a good thing.
Hi I was wondering if i could go to college in South Dakota with only three math credits. Please reply. Thank you.
When i say math credits i mean math classes. I have taken algebra 1, 2, and geometry.
Top Answer:
You can higher your chances to get accepted into a good University by taking higher math classes I recommend you take pre-cal and calculus if you can make it that far, or even better an AP calculus class. But you only took three so far, I would say no but it's different for each colleges. I suggest you asking your school counselor they have more information about colleges. And oh
how about the diversity, im hispanic will that effect my social life there??
Top Answer:
It's not an amazing school, but it's still good. It's about as racially diverse as the rest of South Dakota, which is not very. If you're only interested in making friends with other hispanic students, you might have some trouble (though I'm sure they have a hispanic student club), but most college students are tolerant of other races and you shouldn't have much trouble making friends with the majority of the student body.

i plan on majoring in english there and what really drew me in was the beautiful landscape of the northwest and of course the 5000 dollar out of state tuition but are they any good?
Top Answer:
Actually, yes. They are one of the underrated schools. The campus life is somewhat laid back, but the environment is good for learning. About the only thing that is a pain on this campus is the winters. Enjoy! ...but bring your long johns!
one of these schools in this state has such a low tutiton rate that they are actually wanting more students and are paying the cost for the to attend the universality or give grants and high scholarships just to attend their campus and work in the state for 2-4 years after. does anyone know or aware of such standing? these mayb be tghe wroing states but is there such a thing?

I live in Eastern Iowa now, and plan to go to college at the University of South Dakota (USD) next fall. I plan to major in Music Ed. If I get a teaching degree in SD, will it be an easy change for me to come back to Iowa to find a job and teach?
Top Answer:
Discuss this with an adviser at the university ahead of time. It should not be much of a problem though. (Most states have agreements with bordering states). You should be able to arrange to have your student teaching requirements be handled in an Iowa school too. That way you could return home to save on expenses.
